Swallow Forge specialises in handcrafted, bespoke architectural Ironwork. Our designs span centuries of style from authentic 17th century detailing to striking 21st century modern statements. Every piece is made to order, tailored to your vision and built to last for generations.
We produce traditional and contemporary ironwork, working with true wrought iron, mild steel, bronze and copper. We blend established blacksmithing methods with current techniques to combine the artistry, character and strength of hand-forged ironwork with the precision and efficiency of modern fabrication.
Whilst we’re adept at purely traditional pieces, we deliberately avoid generic, mass-produced work because what we offer is something no ordinary fabricator can match; the depth of craftsmanship only a skilled blacksmith can bring.
WORKMANSHIP YOU CAN TRUST
Our lead blacksmith, Toby Smith, trained at the prestigious National School of Blacksmithing in Herefordshire, completing a three year course in traditional blacksmithing and graduating with a Double Distinction Star, the highest possible grade.
During his training, Toby learned from some of the finest blacksmiths in the country and also spent two and half years outside of college under the mentorship of Master Blacksmith Doug Campbell FWCB. Working alongside Doug on a wide variety of projects honed his skills, deepened his design insight and strengthened his commitment to excellence every time he lights his forge.
Swallow Forge has just located to a brand new 750sqft workshop near Hemel Hempstead. Set in a hamlet close to the River Gade, it’s been fitted out with the most modern sound proofing materials available so working late into the evening to complete projects isn’t an issue.
Our new premises are equipped with a traditional coke-fired forge which allows us to specialise in the use, and principles of, heritage materials and styles including fire welding.
We’ve also got gas-powered forges, power hammer facilities, multiple workbenches and modern workshop facilities, and machinery which enables us to complete much larger projects with quicker lead times.
